Lab Grown Diamond Diamond clarity

What is diamond clarity?

Diamond clarity, as defined by ELGA, involves the meticulous assessment of minute imperfections present on both the surface and within the gemstone. Surface irregularities are termed as blemishes, while internal ones are recognized as inclusions. The presence of inclusions can hinder a diamond's ability to refract and reflect light, leading to a diminished sparkle as clarity diminishes.

Within the domain of ELGA, gemologists opt for the term "internal characteristics" in lieu of imperfections or flaws, acknowledging these as elements that bestow a distinctive character upon a natural diamond. Natural diamonds, nurtured over billions of years within the earth's crust, originate from depths of approximately 90 miles beneath the earth's surface, enduring high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. Subterranean volcanic eruptions propel these diamonds to the surface, where they patiently await the moment of discovery.

This natural process inherently results in a diverse array of internal characteristics and external blemishes. Owing to their rarity, diamonds with minimal inclusions, both in quantity and size, are awarded a higher clarity grade, commensurate with an elevated price. At ELGA, we take pride in commemorating the unique journey and character of each diamond, where clarity not only serves as a metric but also as a testament to the exceptional nature of our exquisite jewels.

How is diamond clarity measured?

The measurement of diamond clarity, whether natural or lab-grown, relies on the same fundamental principles of extreme pressure and heat, leading to the formation of inclusions. In the case of lab-grown diamonds, these inclusions are evaluated using the same criteria as their natural counterparts.

The process of measuring diamond clarity involves a meticulous examination of the stone for inclusions and blemishes under 10x magnification. The resulting assessment is then assigned a grade within a range that spans from Flawless to Included.

For Elga lab-grown diamonds specifically, each diamond has undergone this clarity assessment and has been categorized as VS or better. This classification indicates that the stone possesses minor inclusions that are challenging to discern at 10x magnification and remain invisible to the naked eye. This commitment to high clarity standards ensures the exceptional quality of The Elga lab-grown diamonds.

ELGA quality inscription?

Every ELGA lab-created diamond exceeding 0.20 carats bears a subtle mark of quality. Invisible to the naked eye, this mark is discernible only through a 10x magnifying loupe.

This discreet inscription serves as a clear identifier, confirming that all ELGA stones are lab-grown. Importantly, this intentional mark of quality does not influence the grading of the stone and remains visible solely under magnification. It stands as a testament to our commitment to transparency and the excellence of our lab-created diamonds.
